Catalan guerilla artist Javier de Riba is doing a Banksy in Barcelona but instead of rats in gas masks holding placards he’s painting colourful geometric tile patterns in abandoned buildings and other forgotten corners of the Catalan capital and beyond.
Using traditional ceramic tile patterns, de Riba builds up the colours over time using aerosol paints and roller applied floor paint to create vibrant scenes in dowdy settings.
Paintings vary from the relatively simple – a few colours in a simple shape on a flat floor to some on a much more ambitious scale – witness his treatment of the disused skate-park below.
